ATASCOCITA CARLA

For Immediate Release
February 23, 2008

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
ATASCOCITA CARLA WINS PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $50,000 DERBY AND TIES 18-YEAR OLD TRACK RECORD

West Palm Beach, Fl. - With 28 career starts, she was the least experienced of all the Derby finalists. On the middle-distance, on which this stake race was contested, this was only her eighth trip around the oval. She was one of two Derby finalists who failed to score a qualifying victory.
That is why it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING that Suncoast Kennel’s Atascocita Carla scored the biggest win of her young career in Saturday evening’s 77th running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 Three-Eighths Mile Derby.
And not only that ladies and gentlemen, in winning the $50,000 Derby, she tied the 660-yard Pat C Rendezvous Three-Eighths Mile Course track record of 37.29 seconds, a record that has been co-owned by two of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s greatest athletes - Monarch Racing Greyhound Kennel’s Kenny’s Secret and DD’s Alley Joe - for 18 years.
In the championship final, it was Carla breaking on top and never having to back over her shoulder to see who was chasing her. She rocketed thru the finish line lights with four-lengths to spare and returned $7.80 to her strong support team.
Git N Stormy, JD Tommyboy and Sippin Champagne finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
The compelte $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby order of finish:

1st - 1. Atascocita Carla (Dodgem By Design - Atascocita Coco, Suncoast Racing)
2nd - 8. Git N Stormy (Dodgem By Design - Sunsands Lilgirl, Keystone Racing)
3rd - 7. JD Tommyboy (Betty N Ed - Slammer’s Sassy, DW Kennel)
4th - 3. Sippin Champagne (Oshkosh Slammer - Double Speed, Arthur Agganis)
5th - 4. Gambler Dodgem (Dodgem by Design - Brown Eyed Girl, Rader Racing)
6th - 2. Pat C Rival (Blazin Blitz - Pat C In Escrow, Pat Collins Kennel)
7th - 6. Tatianna Episode (Jimbo Scotty - Queenbee Episode, B & B Racing Kennel)
8th - 5. Boss Boohoo (I Am Black - Move On Molly, James Douglas Kennel)

Atascocita Carla is now invited to compete in the March 15th running of the $50,000 St. Patrick’s Invitational. Last month’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic champ Drum Thunder (Rader Racing Kennel) is also eligible.
This was the 77th running of the Derby, one of the nations longest running stake events, and is named in honor of humanitarian, greyhound owner and dedicated supporter of greyhound adoption, James W. Paul.
